DIRECTORS
Prof. Dr. Bernhard Brüne
Director, Institute of Biochemistry I Faculty of Medicine Goethe Universität Frankfurt
Prof. Bernhard Brüne studied biochemistry at the University of Tübingen and obtained his doctorate at the University of Constance/Germany. After two years in the US (GlaxoSmithKline) and one year in Sweden (Karolinska Institute) he holds professorships in Erlangen-Nuremberg and Kaiserslautern, before moving to Frankfurt, where he currently is Vice President for Research. His research aims at understanding mechanisms of innate immunity, while focusing on oxygen deficiency and lipid signaling.
Prof. Marco Racchi
Department of Drug Sciences University of Pavia
Prof. Marco Racchi studied Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Technology and obtained a doctorate in Biotechnology and Pharmacology at the University of Milan. Experimental research activities include studies on aging and mechanisms of signal tranduction in aging and age-related diseases. The laboratory at the University of Pavia investigates the role of hormones (glucocorticoids and DHEA) in the modulation of signal transduction systems and the role of RACK1 and its signalling partners in immunosenescence, cancer and neurodegeneration. These activities resulted in more than 150 peer reviewed articles.
Prof. Angelo Sala
Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences University of Milan
Prof. Angelo Sala studied Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Technology and obtained a doctorate in Pharmacology, Chemotherapy and Medical Toxicology at the University of Milan. After two years at the University of Colorado and at the National Jewish Medical and Research Center (now National Jewish Health) he is now carrying out research at the University of Milan about the biochemistry and pathophysiological role of polyunsaturated fatty acids and their metabolites in acute and chronic inflammation.
